Kingdom is a Korean historical zombie series set in the Joseon period, which was like the full bloom of Korean imperial grandeur. As a zombie flick, it’s pretty by-the-numbers – there’s nothing especially exciting about that. But what I really loved about the show was its historical setting.

If you are, like me, a dedicated nerd and history buff you will love seeing the gorgeous costuming and period recreation of a range of Josean-era settings and social classes –the imperial palace, the secret royal police, the royal ministers and rural villages. It’s a fun little adventure yarn and travelogue that takes you all over the old kingdom of Korea, and for me that is the show’s main strength. The addition of zombies is just kind of like a minorly interesting historical footnote.
